Thanks to the Father Miguel Fitzgerald hospital, part of the health program of the Augustinian friars in Ecuador, since 1995 we have assisted the poorest population initially affected by the floods caused by El Niño.

After the earthquake that shook Ecuador in 2016, the hospital is the only healthcare facility left in the area. The Napoleón Dávila public hospital was also destroyed and will only be ready in 2021. The Ministry of Health therefore asked the Augustinians to enlarge the hospital and increase the number of patients. Thanks to joint work with the Italian Foundation and other partners, the new wing of the hospital was inaugurated in May 2018 and we are proceeding with the purchase of new equipment. The project in question envisages, in addition to these activities, studying and developing a “risk awareness” system to alert the population in time.
