UNA HIJA MAS – Tools for Catholic Education, Loreto region.

We want to provide a solution to the lack of suitable material for learning Religious Education in schools in Loreto region.

Iquitos has been the capital of the Loreto department since 1897 and the largest metropolis in the Peruvian Amazon, east of the Andes, as well as the ninth most populous city in Peru. It is the largest city in the world that cannot be reached by road: it is only accessible by river and air.

The project’s proposal is to provide a solution to the lack of suitable material for learning Religious Education in schools in the Loreto region, where the staff teaching the course have neither adequate means nor study material. We also try to lighten the workload of teachers working in the field of religion, who usually also have an academic specialization other than religious education.

The general objective is to make available to teachers who teach the Catholic religion the necessary academic documents such as annual plans, units, sessions, videos, sheets and projects, consistent with what is proposed by the State and the ODEC (Oficina de Educación Católica).
In particular we want:

  • Create a resource centre for teachers with all the materials needed in the religion area.
  • Edit audiovisual material necessary for teaching (videos, slides, cards, etc.).
  • Make document planning available to teachers.
  • Create educational projects according to each of the regions of the country (initially for the Loreto region).

The main aim of this project is to progressively serve all regions of the country in the development of Catholic religious education.

The project aims to be a useful and practical tool for educational work in the field of religion, which teaches children and young people the appropriate skills and abilities to learn and understand the faith. However, when teachers are given responsibility in that area, not only they are not specialized, but, in many cases, they do not share the same faith; added to this burden there are employment and the scarcity of easily accessible or incompletely published resources, having to adapt by searching the internet for information that is not precise or in many cases extraneous to Catholic education.
“Una Hija Más” Project wants to provide a place where the teacher can download not only the necessary academic documentation with a variety of strategies that can be chosen, but also projects according to the region of the country, in addition to the audiovisual material created exclusively for such learning sessions.
