The school is located in Katako, a Muslim neighborhood, and will mainly benefit Muslim children.

The project, which began in 2015, will develop in Katako, a popular Muslim neighborhood in Jos where the Augustinians have the Santa Rita monastery and where they have already built a training center for women and a trauma center for victims of violence.

The Peace Model Academy today assists 300 children, mostly Muslims, and all from extremely poor families. In the Muslim “zone” there are no quality schools and children cannot go to institutions on the Christian side for fear of reprisals. Unfortunately the city, like many others, has been divided into two parts since 2000, one Muslim and one Christian due to the continuous clashes between the major Hausa ethnic groups and the Fulani, Muslims, and the Ibo and Yuruba, Christians. Children are the ones who suffer the greatest hardship from this situation, forced to live in terror and deprived of any assistance.

The Augustinians have not abandoned the neighborhood and are indeed investing in new social works, including the Peace Model Academy. The aim is to increase the number of students up to 450 but above all to create a generation of peaceful people willing to dialogue, thus counteracting a situation that fuels more violence and hatred every day.

We begin the lessons with the reading of the Gospel and end them with the reading of the Koran, this is the challenge that we carry out every day together with the children.

Final Report

The project, financed by Misean Cara, ended successfully, achieving better results than expected. Father Emmanuel Thlize sent a final report highlighting that the 9 classrooms have been built and all equipped. The school today can assist 450 children, including many Muslims. A campaign to promote peace was also promoted in the area which involved hundreds of people.
