The situation is rapidly worsening and from December 2016 to February 2017, the number of people fleeing to Jalingo was around 10,000. This situation was reported in February 2017 by some local NGOs who met with representatives of the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) and the Emergency Management Agency (SEMA). A UNHCR program has been active since 2017.

The project that the Italian Foundation is developing together with the Augustinian missionaries of Nigeria is part of a program coordinated by the Justice, Development and Peace Commission of the Diocese of Jalingo and has the aim of creating an emergency fund to help the population with basic needs.

Above all, women and children are benefiting, certainly the most vulnerable categories, and the distribution of basic necessities and food is expected.
