The new school will be built in a rural area of Eldoret, Uasin Gishu county, located in the Rift Valley.
The Augustinians arrived in the city in June 2013 and run the parish St. Joseph the Worker Kapyemit Catholic church. To develop their pastoral work and social activities, they manage the church and have opened some offices in the house for the friars, this way they can offer various social welfare services. They then supported the construction of a primary school for the Diocese. In fact, the Bishop wanted the friars as supervisors of the project, friars who will then manage the school.
Together with the Italian Foundation and thanks to the support of the Augustinian Province of Ireland, we decided to invest more in the educational sector and to build another school that hosts a complete cycle, from nursery school to secondary school.
The Institute will be located in a rural area and will be aimed primarily at children who come from neighbouring villages. Evaluating the project positively, the Diocese decided to build a church near the school. Thanks to this close collaboration, the compound will become an important meeting point for the entire area.
The school will be able to assist 900 pupils and as always, particular attention will be paid to the most disadvantaged categories: poor people and girls.
The goal is to be ready in January 2025, in order to accompany many children to start the new school year.
Thanks to the new building, the Augustinians will be able to continue their work in four schools, two owned (Kisumu and Eldoret) and two managed (Nairobi and Eldoret).
School represents an extraordinary tool for improving the lives and safeguarding of children, defending the dignity of people, and bringing them closer, in freedom, to the encounter with the love of Christ.
