Our Mission

We are a youg and small foundation but with 750 years of history behind us and social workers in 50 countries of the world.

Fr. Anthony Banks
CEO

The Foundation Augustinians in the World was born on 20 December 2014 at the behest of the Augustinian General Curia. The objective is to assist the Augustinian men and women missionaries of the world in their social projects for the benefit of the most poor.

We are a non-sectarian foundation that works with all and for all, independent from any religious creed or social base, and we find our inspiration in the words of Saint Augustine and in the principles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights of the United Nations.

We believe in dialogue and in encounter and our challenge is to contribute to the creation of a world where it will no longer be necessary “to give some bread to a hungry person because there will no longer be anyone who is hungry”. Working alongside Augustinian missionaries, we have the task of sustaining their social projects in 50 countries of the world, guaranteeing them a technical supervision and economic support and sharing a clear and effective working strategy. We believe in the development of all persons and the development of their competencies, guaranteeing to all the possibility of contributing to the advancement of the society in which they live. We prefer to speak of persons and not of individuals and we believe in a society that is more equal, more respectful and more helpful toward those who are in need. Education for all, respect for human rights, and equal and sustainable development, these are the values that characterize our mission, while attentively taking into account our work and always alongside the most poor, so that, inspired by the words of Saint Augustine: “we can never distance ourselves from the journey that the world is making and we cannot become simply spectators, given the fact that we live directly in the midst of the hopes and anxieties that humanity itself is living.”
