Research on “Migrants and Development in Algeria”

The goal of the project is to restructure the Basilica of Saint Augustine in Annaba in order to stimulate a path of intercultural dialogue respectful of cultural and religious diversities. In addition to this first activity we promote training courses for youth and a mediation program with the local authorities

Description:

The project, coordinated by Caritas of Algeria, looks to the development of research on the conditions of migrants in the country, whose rights are totally denied. The research will be conducted by professionals identified by Caritas and by the four dioceses: Algeri, Orano, Laghouat and Costantina. The Augustinians, thanks to the work of Fr. Ambroise Tshibangu, already the one responsible for the program of migrants of the diocese, have been working on conducting a survey on the presence of migrants in the area and on pinpointing eventual projects for development to be promoted for and together with them. The research has been presented to the Forum Social Mondial 2015 which was held in Tunis from 24 to 28 March (http://fsm2015.org/en ) and will represent an excellent basis to study a program of activity that will have as its object that of creating the conditions for an real and dignified integration for the very many migrants present in the country.
